Family Stabilization

  • Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF): Adding parental engagement requirements will stabilize families, and increase children’s confidence and support, enhancing school performance, graduation, college, and career pathways.

  • Neighborhood Pantry: No child should go hungry in America. Supporting community centers to have pantries regardless of income stabilizes families. Empower USDA to supply neighborhood pantries with nutritious food for families.

  • Earned Income Tax Credit  (EITC):  The EITC has lifted millions of children and adults out of poverty. Support making payments to families and make EITC a permanent income for families.

  • Livable Wages: Chol supports a federal minimum wage of $15 per hour.

  • Improve Transportation Systems: Poverty persists in our communities partly because of a lack of access to transportation. Many jobs are usually off bus lines and families cannot reach them, perpetuating conditions of poverty. Improving the transportation system through vouchers for SNAP and TANF recipients would help get families out of poverty by giving them options to seek jobs with higher wages in distance.
